Upbeat about Housing Despite Higher Rates

Fannie Mae recently published the results of their National Housing Survey taken during the month of July.  The National Housing Survey has been conducted monthly for the past three years, beginning in June 2010. The current survey is interesting as it reflects the attitudes of renters and homeowners now that they have had time to acclimate to the quick rise in interest rates during May and June.

Some Survey Highlights:

Despite the rise in rates, 74% believe it is a good time to buy a home, which is near the all time high of 76%.

More and more believe it is a good time to sell a home, with the survey matching a recent high of 40%, way above the lower reading of 16%, 12 months ago.

Expectations are for home prices to rise 3.9% in the next 12 months.

Rising interest rates are baked into expectations as 62% believe that interest rates will continue to rise over the next year.
